Athens Itinerary

🏛️ Day 1: Arrival & Evening Vibe

  • Afternoon Check-In: Arrive in Athens, take the Metro Line 3 from the airport to the city center (Syntagma or Monastiraki), and check into your hotel.
  • Late Afternoon Walk: Walk through Plaka, the oldest neighborhood in Athens. Its narrow, cobblestone streets are tucked right under the Acropolis, lined with bougainvillea and beautiful neoclassic houses.
  • Sunset at Areopagus Hill (Mars Hill): Walk up this smooth rock outcrop right next to the Acropolis entrance. It offers the absolute best free panoramic view of the city and the Parthenon as the lights turn on.
  • Dinner: Head down into Psirri or Monastiraki for an authentic Greek dinner (souvlaki, moussaka, and local wine) at a lively taverna.

📜 Day 2: The Historic Heart of Athens

💡 Pro-Tip: Buy a combined multi-site ticket online in advance to skip the main ticket lines.

  • 08:00 AM – Acropolis & Parthenon: Arrive right at opening time to beat both the heat and the tour crowds. Explore the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, and the Theatre of Dionysus.
  • 10:30 AM – Acropolis Museum: Walk down the hill to this world-class modern museum, which houses the incredible artifacts found on the slopes of the Acropolis.
  • 01:00 PM – Lunch: Grab a quick gyro or Greek salad in the Makriyianni neighborhood right outside the museum.
  • 02:30 PM – Ancient Agora & Temple of Hephaestus: Walk through the ancient marketplace where Socrates and Plato used to debate. The Temple of Hephaestus here is one of the most well-preserved ancient Greek temples in the world.
  • 05:00 PM – Syntagma Square: Walk over to the Greek Parliament building to watch the iconic Changing of the Guard ceremony performed by the Evzones guards.

🚂 Day 3: Full Day Corinth & Direct to Airport

To make your 10:00 PM flight seamless without returning to Athens, you will use the Suburban Railway (Proastiakos), which connects Corinth directly to Athens Airport with one easy platform transfer.

  • 08:00 AM – Train to Corinth: Take the Suburban Railway from Athens Central Station (Larissa Station) to Korinthos Station (approx. 1 hour).
  • 09:30 AM – The Corinth Canal: Take a short taxi from the station to the jaw-dropping Corinth Canal. Walk across the pedestrian bridge to see the impossibly narrow, steep rock walls cutting through the sea.
  • 11:00 AM – Ancient Corinth & Acrocorinth: Head to the archaeological site of Ancient Corinth to see the Temple of Apollo and the Bema (where St. Paul stood). Afterward, take a taxi up to Acrocorinth, the monolithic rock fortress overlooking the ancient city, for spectacular views.
  • 04:00 PM – Early Dinner: Have a relaxed, early seafood dinner at a seaside taverna in nearby Archaia Korinthos or Loutraki.
  • 06:30 PM – Train Straight to the Airport: Head back to Korinthos Station. Board the train toward Athens, transfer easily at Ano Liosia station to the Airport line, and roll straight into Athens Airport (ATH).
  • 08:15 PM – Airport Arrival: Arrive at the terminal with plenty of time to check in, clear security, and catch your 10:00 PM departure.
